Arroyo Seco June

Arroyo Seco Raceway gets blown away - Just as the first pair of Pro cars came up to race the wind kicked up and filled the sky with dirt. Only 4 or 5 pairs of Pro cars made it down before they had to stop the race. They tried to wait it out and clean the track but the wind just covered the track with dirt so the ASR staff made the decision to cancel the race.

There were 65 cars entered and quite a few exhition cars like the blown trucks of Southwest Custom Trucks and Redneck Racing, Crazy Al and Charlotte's blown 57 Chevy Nomad, the Backdraft Racing Jr. Dragsters and four big 'ol Hudsons doing some grudge racing.

JD St.Cyr from El Paso was driving the Southwest Custom Trucks' Blown Alcohol 55 Chevy. He made a shakedown run to feel out the track and ran in the mid 9's but was unable to come back for another pass because of the wind.

Charlotte and Crazy Al's awesome 57 Chevy Delivery - Al and Charlotte bolted on a bigger supercharger the night before the race but lost the blower belt after doing a wicked screaming burnout. Damn, it sounds good!

The Redneck Racin Crew from Arizona made their easy 9 Second shakedown run also in the all steel truck!

These beautiful Hudsons came out to do a little friendly grudge racing for bragging rights. The two tone green Hudson is Mr. Bennet's from El Paso.

Sammy "The Fireball" Franco from Anthony, NM
Sammy got second place at the last Thunder Alley race but decided to try out Arroyo Seco - this was Sammy's first time bringing the original Fireball to ASR.

This crazy dude was riding the wheelie bars about 1/3 of the way down the track every pass! He has the wheelie bars adjusted up so the front tire is about a foot off the ground! Looks crazy!

Walter Andrews from El Paso ran a pair of 9.6's and still plans to open up the bottle once he gets everything straightened out. Walter spun out and tagged the wall at the Thunder Alley Friday night test and tune but got away with minimal damage.. I think he just scratched up the front end.

Ray Villareal from El Paso has been sitting out this year at ASR so Ray Jr. can try out his luck in the West Texas Express Nova. He's at the top of the Modified points! This is a proven car and is up for sale with the matching trailer.

Patrick Muller from Silver City, NM was driving this backhalf Torino in the Mod class. I'm guessing this is his new car so he can park his original Ford Cobra Torino.

Louie "the Outlaw" Vasquez from El Paso is a big supporter of ASR and pitched in trophys for the Pro, Mod and Street class winners!

Louie was racing his Monte Carlo in Pro and his wife was running her Chrysler in the Street class.

How many times do you see a pair of Gremlins lined up side by side for a run? AMC's were everywhere!! It seemed like all of the AMC's in El Paso and the southwest showed up for this race.... all 7 of them!

Robert Nichols from El Paso in the near lane

Geno Leyba from El Paso was on his free entry pass that he won after getting the best RT during the April race time trials with a killer .501. He was running his dad's (Tony Leyba) truck again since Tony had a family function to attend.
