Race Wars was HUGE!! An estimated 9,000 spectators and over 350 cars! The track was packed - probably the biggest race ever in El Paso other than way back when Big Daddy Don Garlits and Shirley Muldowney came in the late 70's. I don't know, it was probably even bigger than that race. The new track wasn't hooking up for the faster cars but did get better as the event went went on. Everyone understood that it was a fresh racing surface (just finished up Thursday) and that it needs a few more races to get some rubber on the track. The race was run really smooth considering the amount of cars, but just like any heads up race there were a few arguements over class rules and some of the runs. Evolution Racing did a killer job promoting the race and running the race with the help of the Duron and Torres families and Vic Hernandez. Next year is looking good too, Louis from Evolution said they plan to start racing every Friday and Sunday next year with a big event once a month. Hopefully we see some more events like this one!

Pat Neal from Tucson, AZ - Check out the stands! Both sides of the tracks were packed full!

The staging lanes were packed all day long

The big dog of the weekend was Joe Vilchis Jr. - he won the Outlaw class. Interesting semi final as the Vega from Mexico had a bye run in the semis but crossed the centerline. You can redlight, breakout, cruise it, whatever you want except cross the centerline. He was disqualified and had to race the Portillo Fiat that lost to Vilchis for second place. He beat the Portillos for the $200 second place money.

V8 Wild

Adrian Duron won the V8 Wild Class over Geno Campo (Geno also got 2nd at Dezert Demonz at last weeks shootout) Geno has got his teal LX Mustang running strong into the 11.6's but that just wasn't enough for Adrian's 9.6 second car. Adrian had a real close race in the 3rd or 4th round against David Rodriguez and his maroon 69 Camaro. Both cars ran in the 9's.

V8 Mild
Over 50 cars in this class!
A black late model Firebird with weld wheels won the V8 Mild Class on a bye run as Geno Leyba broke a poly lock on a rocker arm and couldn't race in the final. The silver C5 Vette got 3rd since it lost in the semis. There were some quick street cars in this class.

V6 Wild
Alex Medrano has made it two wins in two weekends with his bad ass GMC Syclone. The Turbo V6 took out a Mazda RX-7 in the final.

V6 Mild
Turbo Supra took out a dark green Ford Taurus SHO in the finals

4 Wild

Steve from Carlsbad, NM and his Nissan 240sx won the 4 Cyl Wild Class and ran 137 MPH! He faced off against Louie from Axion Motorsports but Louie was sleeping at the light and couldn't catch him. In the semis though, Louie did get to take bragging rights by beating the big dogs from California - the guys from Trackmasters in their really quick 134 MPH orange Prelude.

4 Mild

This was another big class - but the old school Bug took out all the late model Imports. The bug was running solid 14 second passes.

Jessie Serna wrecked his 9 Second S/G Monte Carlo into both walls and Lencho put his Berreta on the roof. It's odd to see two of El Paso's NHRA event racers crash on the same day. Luckily, both of them were ok.

Remember the guy who lifted the wheels big time at the Evolution Shootout at Dezert Demonz? Here he is in the daylight - Jason Berlin and his nitrous windsor Mustang. He fought the traction problems and put it away early.

I'm going to be putting up pics all night! Check back again
