Rolfe Sassenfeld (sponsored by M&V and Billy Graham Racing) collected another check for his driving skills and excellent crew chief guidance from his wife. The man had an almost unbeatable pass with a .508 light and a 9.525 on a 9.52 dial in against Russel Hudson's .574 with a 11.001 on a 11.03 dial. Rolfe edged out RJ Torres in the semi's on a double break out run. RJ is number 10 right now in NHRA Division 7 Super Srock points. The other Semi final match up was Russel Hudson taking out Vic Hernandez in another double break out run but Russel broke out by less and got to go to the finals. It's amazing that Russel can do this without a delay box, not even a trans brake! Takes some skill to foot brake it through a class filled with expensive electronics.

Matt Smith won Modified in his street driven Vega Wagon taking out veteran racer George Aguilar in his 69 Camaro in the final round. Joe Pena got to take home the third place check even though he didn't make a single time trial! He lost to Aguilar in the semis. I don't have the fianls or semi final ET's and RT's, but I promise I'll get them up next time. I don't know who won street, if you know email me and i'll post the winners names. I know Greg Woolfolk was running his Vette and Fred Beard was even running his dually in street.

The RGB Chevelle provided some of the excitement for the evening when he busted all of the wheel studs off at the launch sending the rear slick half way down the track. It looked like some pretty nasty damage to the quarter panel, but I'm pretty sure it will be fixed and back out, maybe the next race.

The weather was perfect for cooking up some burgers and Brautwursts. It seemed like prettty much every pit area had a BBQ grill going, like Pena's pit with Jay "the Cook" Castello flippin' and a grillin'. Vilches had informed me that beer was ok after you were eliminated, but the Sheriffs were cruising through and kindly informed us otherwise... I'm not too sure what the deal is on that.

The race was a lot of fun! Hopefully it will always be this good, or even better. There was a couple of cars from Arroyo Seco, including defending Pro Points Champ Sammy Torres that made it to this race. It's good to see some out of town cars again, maybe next race we'll see a few more ... Adrian Jaramillo? Pat Muller? Gordy King? Ron Vannater? We'll just have to wait and see.
