Thunder Alley 10-26-02

The forecast of rain and the early clouds definately hurt the turnout of this race. There were only 23 cars signed up to run the bracket race. Luckily the race was still run even though the car count was so low. It was the same hardcore drag racers that made it to all the races this year - Cordero, Nichols, Woolfolk, Mijares, Vic Hernandez, Ray Villareal, Hills, Jefferson...

Anyway... the rains did come in and ended the great day of racing after the fourth round of eliminations.

These were the five local Big Dogs that had to split the purse. - CLICK ON THE PIC.

DANNY GOMEZ was the 5th car left in eliminations, but unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get a picture of him before he left.

Oscar Tellez of Horizon City did the best of all of the Mod guys making it all the way to the fourth round.

.

Big time drag racing fans and future racers I'm sure!

NOTES:

* JR Mijares was still on the path to add to his 4 race wins in a row even though he was in a different car! He was running the Camaro that Ernie Mijares may be playing with next season. Can Senior hang with junior next year? Team Mijares collected another check for the days racing and like the other winnings of the year, they hand over to the Child Crisis Center of El Paso.

*Gary Hill had some WILD launches going! The Ford powered Mustang had the front tires about two feet off of the ground riding on the wheelie bars for quite a ways off of the line. The track was hooking.

*Sorry for the lack of pictures, my camera batteries were low so I waited till the end to take pics just in case they died.

*Mike Hunt was one of the last 5 racers left when the rain came down. He had over 6 seconds on his throttle stop. It looked like he was just cruising down the track, but he still had one of the faster cars in there running 10.40's.
